3D mesh adaptation for an Hydro-Mechanical coupled problem
by S. Meunier and E. Rousset, EDF R&D / AMA
A MSc internship has been realized to continue work initiated for numerical optimisation of 3D excavation studies in water-saturated porous medium. R. Plassart did first work about this topic in his PhD and presented it during 2011 Code_Aster users day [bib1].
Our simulation involves Code_Aster and HOMARD with evolutive meshes with respect to the tunnel drilling.

In this work, we use an automatic adaptive meshes algorithm refining mesh around interest zone, which is the vicinity of the gallery.
Computation requires 7 hours for simulating a 13 meters excavation with 4 processors parallel resolution using the PETSc solver. After 30 mesh adaptations, the size of the problem is 1.2 million of degrees of freedom.
