Re: For Graduates

Hello,

In Czech republic there are almost always licenses for commercial solvers at universities (ansys, abaqus, comsol, msc, siemens), and some specialized department uses their own FEM codes, as far as I know only few users in my country work with code-aster.

Seriously : in Italy is the same.

Very Seriously : i observed which code aster is often used in Italy by doctor/professor or phd in mechanics

Friendly : i use code aster for personal culture and ever i found a reason for use it in my different works obtaining ever interesting results . ( about code aster i consider myself ever its student ) smile

Re: For Graduates

Hi,

I am a phd student of the University of Melbourne. My research direction is offshore geotechnical engineering and offshore wind turbine. I mainly use Abaqus to conduct geotechnical simulations. But I am also interested in CA. In recent days, I conduct several similar simulations in CA, and CA offers results close to Abaqus. So I am being more and more confident to use CA to conduct investigations. But to be honestly, I have not heard of any other students using CA. My supervisor has purchased Abaqus license, so almost all my colleagues use Abaqus.

I like opensource softwares. I hope that one day I can totally adopt opensouce softwares to conduct my research, without any reliance on commercial license. I even plan to study French (as I am not a French speaker) to better understand CA's documentation. Currently the English translation of CA documentation is not user-friendly enough.

Regards,

Re: For Graduates

Hi, I have been reading a lot about OSS for FSI and I found CA. I think this is a good solver. But can I ask some help so that I can fully understand its capability?

I am doing my graduate thesis about FSI. I am desperately looking for someone whom I can ask regarding what is the full capacity of Salome Meca or CA coupled with openFOAM whatever is better. I am trying my luck to ask here to gain insights on how can I use Salome Meca or if I can achieve my research objective using this OSS. By the way, I am currently have this concept. The idea that is on my mind is basically two parts. The first part is that that an explosive charge (say TNT) inside a structure will be detonated that will cause shockwave and gas pressure inside the structure, so I need to determine the pressure it exerts to the confining wall (CFD). Then the second part would be the response (strain and stresses) of the walls including cracks, damage, fractures or failures (if there are any, due to the high pressures) using FEA. So basically, I wanted to couple this two procedures, CFDxFEA in order to have a more exact simulation and result which results to a dynamic remeshing or anything like this for every time step until the explosion fades.

Hoping for your response on your convenient time. Thank you and more power!
