Unexpected error TRANSIENT in Salome Meca 2021

Good morning,

I had this error the third time now. Salome Meca is version salome_meca-lgpl-2021.0.0-0-20210601-scibian-9 (MPI). The first time it disappeared when I reran the simulation. I suspected the 'turn off monitor after 15 min' function in Ubuntu to be connected to it (I assume it is a graphical error; I have problems with my monitor waking up and the Nvidia drivers--also wrote in their forum about this waking up error, but nothing happened). Nvidia driver is 470.141.03 on Ubuntu 20.04LTS. Until one month or so, I kept using older Nvidia drivers because of this reason (could this be connected?).

What is happening? I am not at the workstation when this happens, now that I turned off the energy saving, I turn the monitor on by hand, no problems there. After a few hours, the attached image appears. Also, the GUI of the OS seems affected, it is very slow and does not react sometimes. Now the weird part: the simulation seems to continue (I can see it on htop) but the iterations are not updated in the window. So, now at the moment, I do not know if it will complete or go on forever.

Does anyone of you have an idea, it is quite frustrating when doing a long simulation.. I don't seem to be able to complete it,

EDIT: Teamviewer does not work also, when this error is present. GUI of OS seems to need a lot of computer capacity.
EDIT2: I was wrong. The sim does continue in the background. I will report back if it completed successfully.

Hello,

just a quick update: the sim seems to have completed, in the attached image you'll see me logging into this machine via teamviewer (it does also not work correctly, it is sluggish and does not react to inputs very well). It seems to be heavily affected by the error in Salome Meca! So I am 100% sure this is a graphics related error, because TV needs a perfectly working graphics card at the other end and a monitor switched on.

Hello,

this error seems to appear more often when 'Auto Refresh' is set low values. When it is set to 5s, I have to close hundreds of windows, when it is set to 5min only a few (sim takes more than 8h). So it is related to the refreshing of the message window.

If I set Auto Refresh to a higher value right from the beginning, it does not seem to appear at all. So it is maybe related to some kind of counter?

By the way: why isn't there a category for Salome-Meca development (like for Code-Aster)? It seems to me, most of the comments in the last 6 months were related to problems with Salome-Meca (+container),

I keep getting these windows, sometimes (just now!), these render the workstation completely unusable. I don't get a message file, nor is anything written into my folder. But the button is green (=success)!,

Anyone else having these problems?

now, after 10h of simulation, SM 2021 did not write the result.rmed. This is not funny, I really want to know what is going on. If I set Auto refresh to 1h for example, I do not get the TRANSIENT error, but it does not write the result. I cannot be the only one with these problems. If it does write a file, it does not write it to the given folder in IMPR_RESU, it keeps writing to /folder/Study1_files/RunCase1 instead,

P.S.: what does EXECUTION_CODE_ASTER_EXIT=2 mean? Aha, in Linux it means 'No such file or directory'.

again, I did not get a result file... The simulation runs and then in the end, nothing is written. I attach the end of the output.log.run file from the /tmp.

In err.log.runCommand it says

Error raised when executing command: /tmp/salome_localres_workdir_mario/mario-mario-HP-Z8-G4-ven.-04-223231.859/launcher_script
ERROR:salomeContext:SystemExit 4 in method _runSession.

By the way: exit code 4 means 'Interrupted System Call', so it seems different to above.

When I launch the simulation with 1st order elements, which reduces DOFs and needed memory drastically, it does not have a problem. Is it related to the filesize? Although 8GB (=Go) should not be a problem in 2022.

EDIT: I restarted with split IMPR_RESU which should give smaller result files. But: my /tmp/mario-mario-HP-Z8-G4-interactif_2332224-0001-mario-HP-Z8-G4 has around 85GB. Maybe it is a storage problem, although I have 700GB free? How large do these files get when CA puts the proc.0 proc.1 .... together in one file? I assume, I'll have to have at least two times this size?

only the MPI-version seems to be affected (POURSUITE is also not working as it does not find a glob or base file, no second Stage folder is written;it just stops with an oversized window). I am currently trying the sequential version which lets me use POURSUITE. Also, the base1-stage folder is written. Unfortunately, it is not blazingly quick :-(.

What could cause this? Now I can't even finish a smaller version with 1st order elements with the MPI-version without running into above trouble...not good..

after reinstalling Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and reusing the same container, I am still having severe problems. Now the simulation just hangs in the middle, I still see

after I pressed Stop, because it did not continue to write to the message-file, the window in the GUI does not show an error. It just shows the following, after being stuck in this step for a long time:

anyone else having similar problems with this MPI-version https://__cloud.sylabs.io/library/emefff/default/code-aster-mpi-in-singularity-of-sm2021 and Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS (latest update)?

Now, with an older container it gives me an error in the same spot in one of the files in /tmp. I attach the last entries of one of the temporary message files.
(deleted some lines with multiple entries, as you know, every MPI-cpu spits out its own message)
What could that mean, please? With a pristine OS and an unchanged container, how is that possible? Are some commands now different in the underlying OS (because of updates)?

Hello,

first I thought these two errors (TRANSIENT and the crashing/stopping MPI version) may be connected. But that is not the case.

This is quite clear, because I get the TRANSIENT error in the latest container salome_meca-lgpl-2021.1.0-2-20220817-scibian-9, also.
