Hello, why DIS\_CHOC works but DIS\_CONTACT does nothing?

i do not exactly understand what is you question

i have used successfully DIS\_CHOC and DIS\_CONTACT quite a few times to minic contact between cables, without any friction

my command file looks quite a bit different from yours

attached is the command file[upl-file uuid=8f2ee462-01cc-4beb-a94c-213c8fc09954 size=8kB]geo1.bin[/upl-file]

My question is why RELATION=‘DIS\_CONTACT’ behaves like there is no spring.

RELATION=‘DIS\_CHOC’ behaves as expected. Beam deforms until 10 mm, then the contact is activated.

instead of JEU I must use dis\_contact = DEFI\_MATERIAU(DIS\_CONTACT=\_F(COULOMB=0.0, DIST\_1=10 )), then it behaves like dis\_choc

@jacob

i cannot see any DIS\_CONTACT available under COMPORTEMENT

as far as i understand

DIS\_CONTACT is a material property (under DEFI\_MATERIAU)

while DIS\_CHOC is a behavior under COMPORTEMENT

the way i use it :

below a certain distance between the two nodes one pushes the other, in other word there is compression in the the discrete element

if the force acts the other way that would be traction in the discrete, this discrete transmits no force at all and the two nodes can move away

No, it is available.

And the DIST\_1 is not correct solution, it pushed the spring up as and initial contact of 10, not gap of 10… So I still don’t understand it.

dis\_contact = DEFI\_MATERIAU(DIS\_CONTACT=\_F(COULOMB=0.0, DIST\_1=1, JEU = 10 ))

DIS\_CHOC behaves as expected, 9 mm free, then contact

DIS\_CONTACT no contact

from your mesh an comm files

i still do no understand what you are trying to achieve

Right end of the beam deforms until 10 mm. Then, the contact is activated. With RELATION=‘DIS\_CONTACT’

this work if the resulting force is compressive first and then tensile, if I reverse the order the contact is ignored… weird

FC\_LOAD = DEFI\_FONCTION(NOM\_PARA=‘INST’,

```
                    VALE=(0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 1, 2 , -1))
```
